Retroactive - Part II of a Series
It was just over a year ago that Retroactive truly became a top flight band here in the Kansas City area. We had just completed our website and were excited to be a part of the worldwide cyber community. Closer to home, we had enjoyed regular appearances at the Ameristar Casino and homes games for the Kansas City Chiefs. A gardener plants his seeds and with patience, care, and a little luck, the flowers will grow and bloom. Retroactive was enjoying a healthy growing season and the band has seen it's labors rewarded.
Dave, Doug, Chad, and myself - representing the core of the band - continue to water the seeds of the Retroactive garden. Dave and myself lay down the low end and the groove and there is certainly something to be said about the rhythm section having been together for a number of years. An 80's retro band is nothing without a strong keyboard player and Doug brings his plush sounds and layers to the songs you know. Chad brings his usual A game and his vocals blend in seamlessly with Shenon to create a strong vocal duo that Retroactive is known for.
In an ever changing world, change is the only constant that I am awareof. Jaime came to this band and quickly established his presence with his fantastic playing and entertaining live presence. He has a boyish sense of humor exhibited in his playing that truly helps bring our performances alive. As the new kid in town, Shenon steps into our own little version of Bright Lights Big City. At the same time, it's like she's always been with us. She will certainly capture your attention and she continues a strong standard of powerful vocals in the songs that we hope you all enjoy.
As summer turns to fall I find that the band continues to grow in exciting directions. This summer has seen the band hit the outdoor festival circuit. We have appeared at Old Shawnee Days, Gladfest, the Wyandotte County Fair, and the Missouri State Fair. We have continued to have the honor of being associated with local humanitarian causes and this year is no different with a performance for the Touched By Cancer foundation. Also, fall means another football season and we can be seen this season at the Arrowhead Club and Arrowhead Pavillion this season.
If I keep going this will start to sound like one of those Annual Reports I get in some of my Christmas cards. I would not do that to you all! The way this year is going makes me look forward to next year. When I sit down to write Part III I can only imagine the new ground that Retroactive will have broken. Some of you have been with us since the beginning and some I have only just seen at some of our recent shows. I hope that all of you will be part of our future.
